The city is across the U.S.-Mexico border (marked here by the Rio Grande or Río Bravo) from the city of Reynosa in the Mexican state of Tamaulipas. McAllen is a fast growing city in the United States and the cost of living is the lowest of any metropolitan area in the United States.
